Rozana Montiel is founder and director of the Mexico-based architectural practice – ROZANA MONTIEL | ESTUDIO DE ARQUITECTURA which specializes in architectural design, artistic re-conceptualizations of space, and the public domain. The studio works on a wide variety of projects in different scales and layers that range from the city to the book, the artifact and other micro-objects. Montiel holds an MA in Architectural Theory and Criticism from the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya UPC (Spain, 2000), and a BA with Honors in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico, 1998). She has participated in the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the 2018 Venice Biennale Freespace, with the ‘Stand Ground’ installation, together with her book titled, HU: Common Spaces in Housing Units. Montiel has received numerous awards including the MCHAP Emerging Architecture Prize for her project, Common-Unity, the Miami Archmarathon Award, the Moira Gemmill Award given by The Architectural Review in London, and the Architectural League of NY’s Emerging Voices Award.
